Summary-Response
“Live and Work,” by Stephen
Stephen, in “Live and Work” mentions a story about a hard working father who delivered bread as a support for his wife and three children. He spent most of his time in his work and attending classes in order to provide his family with money for living. Beside this, his family always complained, “You don’t spend enough time with us,” but he reasoned that he was doing all this for them. As a result, all of his hard work paid off, and he became a senior supervisor; therefore, he could afford to provide his family with life’s little luxuries like nice clothing and vacation abroad. However, Stephen further states that the father continued to work very hard, hoping to be promoted to the position of manager and he did. Consequently, he bought a beautiful condominium overlooking the coast of Singapore. On the first Sunday evening at their new home, he was going to devote more time to his family, but he didn’t wake up the next day.
In sum, the author describes the actions very well, which makes the story more interesting. It is a touching story, which gives us a clear idea that we should balance our life and career. In addition, we should be happy with what we have and enjoy every single moment in our lives. However, I did not like the ending of the story. It is too sad; I always prefer happy ending. Furthermore, he didn’t mention what happened to the family after the father passed away. In conclusion, I recommend this nice-moral story that teaches us great lessons in order to have better life.
