Summary-Response" Beauty Is Not Just Smaller Than Life "

Leonard Pitis Jr, in her article, “Beauty Is Not Just Smaller than Life,” claims that sometimes beauty can be faked by a little “digital wizardry”. The author further mentions Kate Winslet as an example. When British edition of GQ magazine took a picture of her without permission, and gave her a more slender look, it made her angry because she likes the way she is. Pitis then states that our perception of beauty has changed because of the influence of the media. This perception is dangerous if not deadly to body and spirit. Moreover, Pitis mentions the feminist solution where men should stop objectifying women. On the other hand, the author thinks that this is not practicable, but instead, people who control what shows on the media should be more thoughtful about depicting the beauty of women.
In sum, the author writes an argument about beauty. She believes that people nowadays have a different understanding about beauty than they did before, which are totally right.  I do agree with her that this happens because of the media. Additionally, Pitis states that people who control the media should be more thoughtful and inclusive about depicting women’s beauty. I totally agree with her point of view because if the gatekeepers of media were more conscientious, girls especially the teenagers who are crazy about what they are watching, and they want to be like the models that appeared on media. This can be really dangerous because they do not think about their health or the side effects of it; they just want to meet the standard of beauty as shown in media. In addition, the title of the article grabbed my attention, and encouraged me to read this article. Also, I really like the way that the author writes her article, and the way she uses several examples to clarify the idea of beauty. The vocabulary that has been used in the article is really simple so that I can understand it easily.  I really enjoyed reading this article and I totally agree with the author’s point of view.
