Summary-Response
“Live and
Work,” by Stephen
Stephen, in “Live and
Work” mentions a story about a hard working father who delivered bread as a
support for his wife and three children. He spent most of his time in his work
and attending classes in order to provide his family
with money for living. Beside this, his family always complained,
“You don’t spend enough time with us,” but he reasoned that he
was doing all this for them. As a result, all of his hard work paid
off, and he became a senior supervisor; therefore, he could
afford to provide his family with life’s little luxuries like nice clothing and
vacation abroad. However, Stephen further states that the father continued to
work very hard, hoping to be promoted to the position of manager and he did.
Consequently, he bought a beautiful condominium overlooking the coast of
Singapore. On the first Sunday evening at their new home, he was going to
devote more time to his family, but he didn’t wake up the next day.
In sum, the author
describes the actions very well, which makes the story more interesting. It is
a touching story, which gives us a clear idea that we should balance our life
and career. In addition, we should be happy with what we have and enjoy every
single moment in our lives. However, I did not like the ending of the story. It
is too sad; I always prefer happy ending. Furthermore, he didn’t mention what
happened to the family after the father passed away. In conclusion, I recommend
this nice-moral story that teaches us great lessons in order to have better
life.
Hi Sarah, it was very sad story. When I was reading this article, I imagined his wife decided to get divorce from him at the end. However, he died because he worked so hard. Your summary and response were very clear, so I could understand easily. I agree with your opinion that the balance between life and career is important. In fact, the father worked for his family, but he couldn’t spend enough time with them. This situation makes family so sad. Moreover, I think it may happen to our real life.

Hi Sarah, Great job for the summary and response. Your summary was amazing and i can understand it easily. I was touched by the story and how he worked so much just to make his family happy. Sometimes we don't recognize how this thing is so important until we lose it. I agree with you about the end of the story. Although most of the story was sad the end should be a happy-end.

Hi~Sarah, I agree your view,and this is a sad story, but I like it.In this story, I think at beginning, the "father" just want to gave more comfortable life to his family.However when he got more comfortable life, he wanted to get more successful in his life. I think every person should have their own desire. The difference is that some people know how to control their desire but the other people almost lost themselves in their desire. Thus, when we focus on doing something, we should look back and ask by yourself“Is this the life which I want?”In this case, we have to balance our life and don't forget your original purpose.I want to recommend the movie which name is“The Family Man”I hope you like it.

Money is never earn enough, is also spend enough forever. We need to live with our family. Although the man get the money, but I think that he didn’t get happiness and finally he lost his life. In another words, we can happy everyday, we can busy every day, we choose what kind of lifestyle is the choice of what kind of life. To me, I think Learning is important, but the free time is also very important. I don’t spend the time to learn too much in my daily time, but in the learning time I am studying very hard working. In my spare time, I'll be without scruple the play, allow myself to enjoy life. So I study result is very good, in my spare time is very full. I recommend you a story about Cinderella Man. The story's events are so interesting, it describes a hard life and how the person struggles because he feels that he responsible from his family. Also, I like the stories that talking about the difficult life because it teaches us how we have to be patient and determined. The life is not easy, so we should have a strong personality to be successful. These kinds of stories provide thoughts expansion for us. Furthermore, the ending of the story assures that the life has grief taste at the same time it has happiness taste, so we will face both of these sides, and we have to be reasonable and strong to solve our life's issues .

Then, the story seems that he can start his new life with spending time with his family. However, at the end he died. I feel my heart twisted. Moreover, I think it can be happened our real life. I totally agree with you that we should balance our life. I hope every family has enough time to spend time with their family. Father always work for his family and he died when he can enjoy life with his family. Maybe the author of this story wants to tell us it's important not only to make the circumstance to live well but also to have enough time with lovers when the time allows us. Thank you for the story. I can think my family again and I want to spend my time with them more.

ReplyDeleteI think we should spend our time with family as much as we can, but we also have to work to support our family. In Japan, over working is one of the biggest problems. Some people dies because of hard working. I think happiness comes from not only money, but money is difinetely necessary to live. This is a difficult problem.
